Archbishop Says Catholic Church Won't Allow Church Wedding of Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez

Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez's plans for a Catholic wedding in June may be headed for a major stumbling block, if a top church official has his way.

Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz, the National Appellate Matrimonial Tribunal head, said in a recent television interview that the Church would not allow the couple's union.

Archbishop Cruz told Studio 23's "Iba Balita ni Anthony Taberna" on Monday, April 4, that the main issue against the wedding was not the Muslim rites administered to the couple but the fact that under Islamic law, the husband is allowed to have more than one wife.

"Ang balakid po diyan, hindi yung kinasal siya [Robin and Mariel] sa Muslim rites. Ang balakid po diyan, ang simbahan, tulad ng maraming simabahang Kristiyano, isa nga diyan ang Katoliko, para sa kanya ang kasal ay para sa isang babae, isang lalake. Tapos ang kwento, panghabang buhay. Eh dun po sa mga Muslim karaniwan sa kanila…naniniwala na ang isang lalake pwedeng dalawa ang asawa tatlo hanggang apat. Sa simbahan hindi pwede ikasal yun pagka't yung kasal na ganun ay walang bisa. Anumang relihiyon para makasal kayo sa simbahan kailangan maniwala kayo sa kanyang aral. Isang lalake, isang babae pang habang buhay. Pag po kayo naniwala na ang isang lalake ay katumbas ng dalawang babae o tatlong babae ay hindi na po pwede yan," the archbishop said.

"Marami naman pong Muslim na hindi ganun ang paniniwala. Basta ang sabi lamang ng simbahan, ang paniniwala ng Muslim igagalang ko, isa, dalawa tatlo ang asawa pero igalang din naman ang doktrina ng mga simbahang Kristiyano, isa na nga diyan ang Catholic Church," he added.

Archbishop Cruz added that even if Padilla swears that this marriage with Rodriguez will be his very last, the Church still won't approve their marriage.

"Titingnan po yung una niyang kasal kung yun po ay may bisa o kung paano man pero hindi naman po agad sasabihin na komo 'Ako'y sa ikalawang kasal hihinto na ako,' hindi naman kaagad ay areglado na. Titingnan po yung una niyang kasal kung yun po ay pwedeng sabihin na walang saysay o meron."

He said the couple should forgo plans for a Catholic wedding.

"Masasabi ko pong hindi po papayagan eh. Hindi po kung ano ang gusto nila at kung ano yung plano nila, hindi po pwedeng ganapin ang kasal na ganun ang paniniwala ng isa sa kanila."

Padilla and Rodriguez surprised the public when they announced they tied the knot through Muslim rites at a mosque in India in August last year.

In a recent interview aired on ABS-CBN, Rodriguez confirmed that she and Padilla are already planning their Catholic wedding. Reports say Bianca Gonzales and Toni Gonzaga will be her bridesmaids and that celebrity stylist Pin Antonio will be one of the principal sponsors.

John Lloyd Cruz Happy for the Success of Sarah Geronimo's Movie

John Lloyd Cruz said that a lot of exciting things are happening in the final four weeks of Imortal, his primetime teleserye with Angel Locsin. “Huling buwan na po namin [kaya] huwag na kayong bumitaw, sana patuloy n’yong subaybayan [ang teleserye] gabi-gabi,” John Lloyd said during the Likhang Imortal awarding ceremony last Sunday, April 3, at the Trinoma Mall.

The actor added that fans of the teleserye are in for a treat because there will be big revelations in the coming episodes of Imortal. “Papalapit nang papalapit ang ending, the biggest revelations mapapanod na, malalaman na, matutuklasan na, and ‘yung conflict ng characters mase-settle na. Lalabas dito kung sino talaga ang pinaka-kalaban ni Mateo (John Lloyd) at ni Lia (Angel),” Lloydy shared.

As for his projects after Imortal, his movie with the rest of the Kanto Boys will push through, although there is no definite date yet as to when shooting will begin. “Ang alam ko, the last time I talked to Tita Malou (N. Santos, Star Cinema managing director) tuloy siya. It’s with the Kanto boys and Toni Gonzaga,” he shared. Should the movie get the go signal, this will be John Lloyd’s second team-up with Toni, the first being the hit romantic-comedy movie, My Amnesia Girl.

John Lloyd also talked about the current success of his former leading lady Sarah Geronimo at the box office with Catch Me…I’m In Love which has already surpassed the P100 million mark. “Masayang-masaya kaming Kapamilya nila sa ABS-CBN [at] Star Cinema. Meron na naman tayong tandem na aabangan,” he beamed. Gerald Anderson is Sarah’s leading man in the said movie.

When the Box Office King was asked about the possibility of doing a third movie with Sarah soon, he replied, “Pati ako nag-aabang din do’n.” After the huge success of A Very Special Love and then its sequel You Changed My Life, many wondered if there would be another sequel. John Lloyd explained that he still hopes to do another movie with Sarah, even if it is not another sequel. “Kung ‘di na maayos, kung ‘di na malinaw ang pupuntahan ng storya, okay lang sa akin kung panibagong pelikula na lang. Oras din kasi [ang problema],” he related. “I think for 2011 parang wala pa yatang nakaplano [na gagawa kami ng movie together].”

ABS-CBN Prepares for Digital Broadcast This 2011

ABS-CBN announced that it is near completion of its latest and most innovative project so far, which is to broadcast in digital format. Digital Television, or DTV, promises richer picture and sound broadcast quality at any location across the Philippines. In a press conference, ABS-CBN DTV Head of Marketing, Miguel Mercado announced that the Kapamilya network is just waiting for the approval of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), expected to be released June of 2011, and by then the Digibox will be made available to the public.

DTV occupies lesser space in the frequency so that a single TV station can broadcast on more than one channel, giving viewers more program options. DTV also produces better picture and sound quality compared to the prevailing analog system. The old analog system can be affected by many kinds of interferences, like skyscrapers and other obstructions.

The DTV Digibox has been developed to work with the different kinds of TV sets found in the Philippines. Old, new, surplus TV sets will all get digital picture and sound quality with the use of the Digibox. As soon as the NTC gives the go signal, the Digibox will be made available in shopping malls and appliance centers across the country at a price comparable to DVD players and with no monthly fees.

Households who will install the Digibox on their TV sets will be able to watch ABS-CBN and Studio 23 in digital picture and sound quality. ABS-CBN has a bonus treat to Digibox subscribers, and that is five new additional channels. Two of these channels will cater to children, one to the youth market, one channel for adult females, and one for adult males. Digibox users can also watch other channels on digital broadcast.

ABS-CBN expects other broadcast networks to follow suit since the NTC has directed the local television industry to make a complete transition from analog to digital broadcast by 2015. NTC’s mandate will benefit the general public as it puts the Philippine TV broadcast industry on par with international standards. Currently, digital TV broadcast systems are available in the U.S., Japan, Australia, South Korea, and most of Europe.

Sam Concepcion and Enrique Gil Nervous About Their First Lead Role in Good Vibes

Nagsimula na last weekend ang pinakabagong weekly youth oriented show na hatid ng Kapamilya network, ang Good Vibes. Pinagbibidahan ito ng dalawa sa pinaka-talented male young stars ngayon na sina Enrique Gil at Sam Concepcion. Matatandaan na huling nagkasama ang dalawa sa Shoutout na isang youth oriented show din kamakailan.

Masayang-masaya sina Enrique at Sam dahil sila ang napili at nabigyan ng chance na magbida among others na kasabayan din nila. Ano kaya ang roles ng dalawa sa nasabing serye? “Ako si Troy Cabrera, half brother ni Sam Concepcion, laki siya sa hirap and nahuli siyang nagho-holdap kaya he was forced to live sa family ni Sam. Yung real father niya si Dominic Ochoa, doon magka-clash yung relationship namin ni Sam,” pahayag ni Enrique.

“Ang role ko dito si Mark Pedrosa and he’s basically a young achiever. Mabait siyang bata sa magulang niya and he’s the team captain of the school’s dance team,” pahayag naman ni Sam.
Kakaiba ang serye dahil hindi lang ito basta drama kundi mapapanood din natin ang cast na magpakitang gilas sa pagsasayaw. May mga powerful dance numbers din na ipakikita sa show. Bukod kina Enrique at Sam ay kasama rin dito si Arron Villaflor at ilang PBB (Pinoy Big Brother) teen stars. Iba’t ibang genre ng sayaw daw ang kanilang ipamamalas dito, mula hiphop, jazz, lyrical at marami pang iba.
