Third Batch of Semi-Finalists Competes on Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3

As the much-awaited ”Pilipinas Got Talent” grand finals nears, the selection of the grand finalists by the judges and the viewing public gets tougher as more diverse acts compete week by week.

Shadow play act El Gamma Penumbra, contemporary dancers Lucky Twins, reggae band Sandugo Band, and Pinay-Nigerian diva Muriel Lomadilla aleady made it through and this week, six new acts will battle to get the public and the judges’ votes.

They are acrobatic group Synergy, 44 year old rocker Lyn Del Rosario, contortionists Gensan Contorionist, all-girl group Jive Dancers, kid belter Rhonsben Jonota, and acoustic brothers Jefferson and Kurt Bringas. Who among them will make it to the finals?

Last Saturday, PGT scored a national TV rating of 21.3% versus rival show “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho” (18.7%). It also ruled last Sunday when the show rated at 23.3% nationally versus “Protege” (14.8%), according to Kantar Media/TNS.

Reputasyon Reigns Supreme in New Timeslot

Reputasyon reigned supreme in its new 5pm timeslot for three straight days.

According to Kantar Media/TNS, the hit dramaserye topbilled by Cristine Reyes garnered a national TV rating of 14.7% last Monday (Sept. 19) beating its rival program ‘Gourmet’ which garnered a national TV rating of 10.5%. Ratings continued to rise the next day (Sept. 20) as Reputasyon reaped a national TV rating of 15.1% versus the 8.8% of GMA7’s ‘Gourmet.’

Cristine is extremely happy with how the ratings turned out, “I am happier that more viewers are now able to watch the show.” She thanked her fans who requested for the timeslot change and who are warmly supporting Reputasyon.

In the coming weeks, Reputasyon will air more intense and interesting scenes about her on-going fight with Catherine Villamayor (Aiko Melendez) and about her confrontations with Henry (Rayver Cruz) and Boyet (Jason Abalos).

The Race to the Top 20 Kiddie Cooks Continues on Junior Master Chef

With only ten MasterChef aprons to give away, the 20 remaining kiddie cooks in the “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition” face off this Saturday (Sep 24) to replicate a dish in order to escape elimination.

The 20 hopefuls have to recreate in an hour seared tenderloin with mashed potato and buttered-glazed vegetables presented by host Judy Ann-Santos Agoncillo and judges Ferns, Lau, and Jayps.

Provided with the ingredients and the recipe, the kids will be instructed to taste the dish and observe its plating before getting in culinary action.

While cooking, the kids should bear in mind that the steak should be cooked medium rare, with additional points if the meat is perfectly round; they must be able to copy the mashed potato’s shape and smoothness, and lastly, the vegetables should be crisp, and the sauce should not be too runny or too thick.

Coco Martin Holds No Grudges Over Matteo Guidicelli

After many weeks of silence, Coco Martin finally shared his side of the story about his controversial altercation with Matteo Guidicelli during the Star Magic Ball’s after party at Manila Peninsula Hotel. First of all, he was sorry that the incident had occurred at a time when everyone involved was supposed to be having fun. “Actually, nagulat din ako, hindi ko alam kasi ang bilis na rin ng pangyayari. Siyempre after that nagsisisi ako na bakit nangyari yun. Unang-una nasa lugar kami na nandun yung mga boss [at] ang daming tao. Ikalawa, magkakaibigan kami, magkakatrabaho kami e. Hindi dapat mangyari yung ganong bagay,” he said in an interview with Cinema News and Push.com.ph on the set of his upcoming movie, You Light Up My Life, last September 21.

At the time, he purposely avoided the local media because he felt that Maja Salvador and Matteo Guidicelli also have to come to terms with what happened first. “Pero sabi ko nga, mahirap balikan at pagsisihan [yung nangyari na]. Pinili ko na lang manahimik bilang respeto rin kay Matteo at Maja. Siyempre ayoko din magsalita against [them], kahit ano pa yung opinyon ko or side ko. Mas better na bilang isang lalaki manahimik na lang at alam ko na matatapos na lang ito. And then nung nagsalita na sila at dumating na yung time na nag-sorry na si Matteo, sabi ko siguro kailangan ko na rin magsalita para maramdaman din nila na open din ako na magkaayos ang lahat.”

Asked how he feels when he learned that Matteo was admittedly jealous of his on screen team up with Maja, Coco explained that he understands where the young actor is coming from. “Ako man bilang isang tao o bilang isang artista, kaya ayaw ko magkaroon ng girlfriend na artista dahil alam kong mahirap e, hindi ko kaya. Iniiwasan ko na magkarelasyon kasi ayokong aabot din ako sa mga selos selos. Bilang isang lalaki natural yun.”

In fact, he has always been very careful whenever the local media would ask him about the possibility of developing feelings for his Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin co-star. As it is, Matteo and Maja have yet to disclose their real-life romance to the public back then. “Actually, may time nga na naiilang ako. May time na natanong ako dahil wala akong girlfriend, kung may posibilidad ba na ligawan ko si Maja. Ni hindi ko sinagot na oo kasi ayoko makaapak ng ibang tao. Oo nga e [alam ko na noon na may sila na] pero private life nila yun, ayoko panghimasukan eh.”

But he just didn’t expect that things would get out of hand between him and Matteo. “Hindi naman nakakarating [sa akin na nagseselos si Matteo]. Sabi ko nga, minsan nagpa-party kaming grupo ng Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin sa bahay nila Maja tapos kasama si Matteo. Wala, wala talaga, hindi ko alam [na nagseselos pala siya]. Siguro minsan dahil din sa bulong-bulong ng mga tao. Pero yun, wala ako magawa, ginawa ko lang yung trabaho ko. Siguro hindi lang talaga nagkaintindihan.”

Although they’ve already settled the issue to date, Coco said that he’s just waiting for the right time to personally talk to Matteo about what happened. “Hindi pa kami nakapagusap. Sabi ko nga, siguro one of these days, magkakasalubong kami sa ABS-CBN at mapag-uusapan din namin yun. Kasi isa lang yung maliit na hindi pagkakaintindihan. Tsaka nag-sorry naman na siya. Yun na yung nagbukas ng pinto para magkaayos kaming dalawa. Honestly, wala [akong sama ng loob sa kanya]. Nahihiya nga ako sa parents niya, kay Maja at sa mga tao, kung bakit kailangan may mangyari pang ganon.”

After this whole controversy, will he keep his distance the next time he gets paired up with Maja? “Hindi naman distansya. Siguro mas mag-usap na lang ng mabuti kung paano ba yung set up nung trabaho, yung limitation… Sabi ko nga sobrang respeto ko kay kay Matteo at kay Maja. At si Maja sobrang laki din ng respeto niya kay Matteo. Sabi ko nga nung si Matteo nagpa-interview at napanood ko, sobra ko siyang naintindihan. Alam ko yung pakiramdam nun. Honestly, ’di ko na alam kung sino sisisihin sa nangyari.”

Anne Curtis Excited to Play a Mistress in No Other Woman

After doing the romantic comedy Who’s That Girl earlier this year, Anne Curtis returns to the big screen in her most mature role to date as the other woman in the Star Cinema and Viva Films drama No Other Woman. The 26-year-old actress plays the role of Kara Zalderiaga, a beautiful and carefree socialite who is emotionally detached from love. “I play the role of Kara and siya yung other woman. It’s something na hindi pa nila ako nakikitang nag-portray, kasi lagi na lang comedy or rom-com so it’s a breath of fresh air for me so sana magustuhan ninyo yung character ko dito,” Anne shared during the No Other Woman press con held last September 21 at the Dolphy Theater inside ABS-CBN.

Anne said that when she first got offered the role, she had no hesitations whatsoever about playing the anti-heroine in the story for a change. “Kasi I think I’ve always been very open na gusto ko talaga to do something different. Kasi 14 years na ako sa industriyang ito, parang lahat na yata nagawa ko. So ito ang hindi ko pa talaga nagagawa. So I was so excited, from wearing the swimsuits to different outfits to my hair, prinepare ko talaga. At kitang-kita niyo naman yun sa movie. I think people don’t realize that I’m turning 27 next year. They don’t see it kasi napaka-bubbly ko ‘di ba? So people don’t realize that as an actress it’s also my frustration to get roles that help me mature as an actress and I feel that this could be it,” she explained.

Anne admitted that she wants to follow in the footsteps of Hollywood actress Natalie Portman. “Idol ko si Natalie Portman. Ano ba mga tinatanggap na roles ni Natalie Portman ngayon ‘di ba? Yung role niya sa Closer you could see that she really tackles mature roles na hindi mo iisipin kung bagay ba sa kanya yun? Pero ginawa niya at na-achieve. Black Swan also was super duper more mature pero I want that. I want to move forward as an actress,” she said.

For her role in No Other Woman, Anne had some steamy scenes with Derek Ramsay. But this was not something that she had to ask permission for from her very supportive boyfriend Erwan Heussaff. “I didn’t need to ask his permission kasi work ko yun at naiintindihan naman niya yun. The scenes are enough for adults or young adults I’d have to say. It’s nothing too sexy na tipong you’d have to close your eyes. Hindi naman siya ganung leveling. It’s sexy siguro more in a way na may mga naka-swimsuit and stuff like that and also because what we’re tackling is domestic life already, married na kaya naging ganun siya,” she added.

After having just come back from a European vacation with her boyfriend and his family, Anne admitted she really enjoyed the time off from showbiz. “Masaya ako. It was with Erwan and his family. Ang saya. Kahit two weeks and a little bit lang, it was fun to get a rest, I think you need that and I believe in that eh. Yung breaker,” she said.

Anne also admitted that the trip made her relationship with Erwan and his family even closer than before. “Siyempre of course. We all get along and of course friend ko si Solenn. And at least dun I was able to see his Ate that lives abroad,” she added.

Mario Maurer Will Visit Manila This October

Thailand star Mario Maurer will soon visit the Philippines for an ad campaign for local clothing brand Penshoppe and to see his avid fans in a meet-and-greet event.

The actor will first attend a photo shoot by renowned Hollywood photographer Darren Tieste, who will be flying in from Los Angeles and the campaign is expected to appear in magazine covers and billboards across the country.

Up next for the actor is a fan gathering which will be held on October 28, 2011 (Friday) 1PM at the PICC Plenary Hall in Manila (gates open at 11AM). The FanCon will be hosted by Thai presenter VJ Utt with special live performance by pop Asian girl group Blush and co-presented by official media partner ABS CBN. Mechanics for the FanCon entry can be found on Penshoppe’s official Twitter and Facebook pages.

Mario has gained a following in the Philippines because of his 2010 movie Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Of Chinese and German decent, the actor’s name was also boosted to public consciousness when the film The Love of Siam was released in 2007. In his debut role, he played a conflicted teen who develops a romantic liking to his boyhood friend. His remarkable portrayal has gotten him the Best Actor award at the 2008 Cinemanila, an annually-held international film festival in the Philippines.

The actor is said to be in talks with Star Cinema for a possible movie collaboration.

Vice Ganda Fulfills His Dream of Interviewing Noli de Castro

Vice Ganda is about to meet his dream interviewee, veteran broadcast journalist and former Vice President of the Philippines Noli de Castro. This was confirmed to ABS-CBN News by the executive producer of the comedian’s weekly talk show Gandang Gabi Vice. The episode is scheduled to air on September 25.

When GGV was launched last May, Vice had already expressed his dream to interview Noli. “Kasi dream ko ding makaharap siya at ma-interview, ‘yung parang 'Kabayan meets Kabayo,’” said Vice in jest.

As early as now, avid followers of GGV are excited to see how Noli will fit in with the impromptu comedy format of the program. Vice described how the program manages to feature celebrity guests in a different light. “Dito kasi nasho-showcase ‘yung totoong pagkatao ng mga artista. Kadalasan kasi ang tingin na natin sa mga artista mataas na bituin. Nagtatanong na tuloy ‘yung mga tao kung normal pa rin ba ‘yung mga buhay nila. Hindi na tuloy nakaka-relate ang karamihan. ‘Yung mga artista kapag nage-guest sa Gandang Gabi Vice bumabalik sila sa pagiging tao.”

Darmo Adarna on Wansapanataym

Consistent na winner sa national TV ratings game ang Wansapanataym! Sa huling tala ng Kantar Media/TNS noong nakaraang Sabado (Sept.16) namayagpag ito sa 25.3% national TV ratings laban sa 14.3% ng 'Manny Many Prizes' ng GMA7. Ganito rin ang nangyari noong Sept. 10 kung kalian pumalo ng 21.9% ang Wansapanataym samantalang 13.8% ang katapat na programa.

Kim Chiu Doesn’t Want to be Too Dependent on Showbiz

Kim Chiu has come a long way since winning the first Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition back in 2006. Now the Fil-Chinese Cebuana is dominating primetime once again with the new teleserye My Binondo Girl, plus a movie with Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos is already scheduled to begin production soon.

But while the 21-year-old is at the top of her game at the moment, she confessed that showbiz is a very unpredictable industry. “Alam ko naman na hindi pwedeng forever na lang akong aasa sa pagiging artista. Matatapos din ito pero hindi ko alam kung kailan. Pero sana huwag muna ngayon kasi nage-enjoy ako sa ginagawa ko at mahal ko ‘yung trabaho ko.”

That’s why despite her very hectic schedule for tapings, commercial shoots, and mall shows among others, she successfully managed to finish high school through the Department of Education’s alternative learning system test. “Na-inspire ako nung mga old friends ko sa high school sa Cebu. Nakikita ko sa Facebook na karamihan sa kanila graduate na sa college. Siyempre kahit papaano naiinggit ako sa kanila.”

Being a certified high school graduate, Kim said that she now has more self-confidence. “Iba rin naman kasi ‘yung may diploma ka, kahit sabihin nating high school lang. At least masasabi mo sa sarili mong may na achieve ka. Nakaka-proud na may katibayan ka na may natutunan ka at wala nang makakaagaw sa iyo nun. Kahit nagtatrabaho ka na at kumikita ka ng sarili mong pera iba pa rin ‘yung pakiramdam na may natapos ka.”

Next in her plans is to take up business course in college. Growing up in a Fil-Chinese clan, Kim explained that she was greatly influenced by her relatives who had expertise in running a business. “Kasi halos lahat ng mga kamag-anak ko may business sila. Lumaki ako sa Cebu na nakikita ko sila kung paano nila patakbuhin ‘yung negosyo nila, paano sila mag-manage ng pera. Naisip ko na ‘yun talaga ang magandang paraan ng kabuhayan, ‘yung may sarili kang negosyo.”

Jake Cuenca Wants to be Known for More Than Just Being a Sexy Actor

Jake Cuenca is not new to doing sexy roles but he said that he also wants to be taken as a serious actor. “Ayoko naman [na puro sexy roles],” he expressed. Jake stars in the film, My Neighbor’s Wife, which is currently in theaters. “Coming out of [the film] In The Name Of Love, tapos Green Rose and then this one… ‘yung susunod kong movie pwedeng expect na kakaiba ulit.”

Asked if his role in his next movie project will be daring too, he simply replied, “Not necessarily more daring. Unless may mga mag-alok na magagandang pelikula na daring ulit. ‘Yung susunod kong gagawin na tinanggap ko na, I won’t reveal any detail about it but it’s completely different from all the roles that I have done. Back to Star Cinema ako.”

Apart from that movie project, Jake also revealed that he has a new teleserye coming up and divulged that Shaina Magdayao is supposed to be his leading lady. The two previously worked together in Ruby, a Mexicanovela adaptation.

Jake described the teleserye as something different and stressed that he is not just limiting himself in being a sexy actor. “Isa lang siyang facet sa career ko. Isa lang siyang parte ng career ko. Hindi dun at dun lang. Meron akong gustong patunayan sa sarili ko na gusto kong maging versatile actor.”

Jake added that he is not worried about Shaina’s boyfriend, John Lloyd Cruz getting jealous of him. “Eksena lang naman ‘yon. Wala naman akong plano manulot at ‘di naman ako mantatalo ng tao,” Jake justified. He said that if he will do a kissing scene with Shaina, it’s not something personal and pointed out that he and Shaina also had a kissing scene in their previous teleserye. He emphasized his point by saying it’s not the first time that he has had a kissing scene with someone who is committed in real life.

Jake added, “Magkakilala naman na kami ni John Lloyd, tsaka napakaliit ng industriya. Siguro walang problema. Tsaka trabaho din naman ‘yan. I have all the respect to John Lloyd, in fact, I look up to him.”

In an interview, he urged the public to watch out for his upcoming show, which he described as “something different.”

Cuenca refused to get into details about the project, but he said he will be pairing up again with his “Rubi” co-star, actress Shaina Magdayao.

When asked if Magdayao's real-life boyfriend, John Lloyd Cruz, has a reason to worry about this upcoming on-screen romance, Cuenca immediately replied, “Eksena lang naman ‘yon. Wala naman akong plano manulot at ‘di naman ako mantatalo ng tao.”

Cuenca stressed that he has no plans to jeopardize his ties with Cruz because he has the highest respect for him.

He explained, “Magkakilala naman na kami ni John Lloyd, tsaka napakaliit ng industriya. Siguro walang problema. Tsaka trabaho din naman ‘yan. I have all the respect to John Lloyd, in fact, I look up to him.”

Meanwhile, following the public launching of his latest movie offering “My Neighbor’s Wife,” Cuenca said that he does not want to be tied down on doing sexy films.

“Ayoko naman [na puro sexy roles],” he exclaimed.

Cuenca explained that going sexy is just a phase he has to undergo in order to achieve his career goal, which is to become a versatile actor.

“Isa lang siyang facet sa career ko. Isa lang siyang parte ng career ko. Hindi dun at dun lang. Meron akong gustong patunayan sa sarili ko na gusto kong maging versatile actor,” he said.

Other than a new television series, Cuenca said that he also has another movie project brewing under Star Cinema.

When asked whether this film more daring than his role in “My Neighbor’s Wife,” he answered, “Not necessarily more daring.”

“I won’t reveal any detail about it but it’s completely different from all the roles that I have done.”

Coco Martin Distances Away from Maja Salvador and Matteo Guidicelli

Actor Coco Martin said he is willing to set boundaries between him and his on-screen partner actress Maja Salvador in order to avoid tension with her boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli.

“Mag-uusap munang mabuti ika-clarify ko kung papaano ba ise-set up ‘yung trabaho, yung limitation,” he told ABS-CBN News.

Martin and Guidicelli had a fistfight during the Star Magic ball.

Salvador later admitted that she was the reason behind the clash.

Martin remained mum amid the controversy.

He explained, “Pinili ko na lang manahimik bilang respeto na rin kay Matteo kay Maja, siyempre ayaw ko nang magsalita, against [anybody].”

“Mas better na sa akin bilang isang lalaki na manahimik na lang.”

Martin said he has not yet spoken to Salvador.

According to Martin, instead of dwelling on intrigues, he’d rather focus on his career.

He is currently busy doing a movie with “Star Power” champ Angeline Quinto.

Baron Geisler Makes a TV Comeback After Rehab Via MMK

Actor Baron Geisler is making a showbiz comeback as he is slated to star in this week’s episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK).

This is Geisler’s first project after he went out of a rehabilitation facility because of alcohol addiction. Actresses Ina Raymundo, Niña Jose and Sharlene San Pedro are also part of the said "MMK" episode.

Geisler said he is thankful that people continue to trust him despite the problems he has caused because of his alcohol dependency.

He then assured the public that he will not drink too much anymore.

Meanwhile, Geisler hopes that young actor Jiro Manio, who recently entered rehab for drug use, can get through this difficult phase of his life.

Manager Denies Allegations of Switching Networks of Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes

During the presscon for No Other Woman, itinanggi ng magka­patid na Veronique at Valerie del Rosario na may balak sila na ilipat sina Anne Curtis at Cristine Reyes sa TV5.

Erik Santos Sings Another Teleserye Themesong

Mula sa platinum recording artist na naghatid sa atin ng mga kantang May Bukas Pa at Lupa, muling haharanahin ang mga tagahanga ni Erik Santos sa kanyang Basil Valdez remake na Mu­ling Buksan ang Puso.

Ito ang magsisilbing theme song ng ginagawang teleserye sa ABS-CBN na pagbibidahan nina Gretchen Barretto, Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, at Derek Ramsay. Hindi na baguhan sa mga theme songs si Erik dahil nakapagbigay na rin siya ng musika sa ilang Star Cinema movies tulad ng One More Chance.

Tinatawag na ngayong The Ultimate Serenader, kalalabas lang ng pinakabagong album ni Erik sa Star Records na siya rin ang co-producer. Ang Awit Para sa ’Yo ay may 14 tracks, na ang siyam ay pawang orihinal at ang lima ay Original Pilipino Music o OPM na sinulat ng mga magagaling na local composers sa industriya.

Ang carrier single ng album ay Kulang Ako Kung Wala Ka na napapakinggan na sa mga radio stations ngayon.

Abangan ang celebrity voice clinics ni Erik sa Center for Pop Music Philippines hanggang sa pagtatapos ng taon.

Juris Talks About 'Forevermore' Album

Queen of Acoustic Pop Juris Fernandez said on Thursday that she is busy promoting her second solo album.

Fernandez, a former member of acoustic band MYMP (or Make Your Mama Proud), said "Forevemore" is much like her first solo album "Now Playing," which reached platinum status.

"Well I think it's the same but I guess we have new songs, siyempre bagong composed. So maraming salamat sa mga nagbigay ng kanta," she said in an interview on "Mornings@ANC."

"Nakakatuwa din na magkaka-second album ako. Hindi ko alam na mangyayari 'yon, ang saya. At I'm getting a lot of support from people," she added.

"Forevermore," produced by Star Records, consists of 13 tracks such as "Dreaming Away," "I Believe in You" and "Kahit Hindi Mo Sabihin." The album was launched last month.

Meanwhile, Fernandez said she will be doing mall tours to promote her second album.

She is currently part of vocal group ASAP Sessionistas.
